Overview
A gig platform that enables developers and engineers to develop their skills, gain valuable experience, and get paid. Simultaneously, it helps businesses find solutions to development issues that they lack the resources to resolve internally.
Problem Statement
The tech landscape is mired with issues, especially for newcomers to the development and engineering space who are looking to grow their expertise. For many, it’s impossible to gain experience through work without already having years of experience. This loop makes it difficult for many to pursue careers in these fields.

User Flows
With the web app spanning dozens of separate user journeys across the business and consumer-facing platforms, we began assembling user flows. From creating an account to inviting candidates, and from setting up a gig to completing it, we strived to make each flow as simple as possible for our target audience.

Market Analysis
Our approach was to isolate and target the most complex potential user drop-off points.

By starting with these critical areas, we aimed to understand where users were most likely to abandon their tasks. With these insights, we informed the design of our landing pages to ensure they were intuitive and user-friendly.

We focused on presenting essential information clearly and concisely, guiding users effectively before they entered the main flows. This approach not only improved the initial user experience but also helped in retaining users by addressing their concerns upfront and providing a seamless transition into the application’s core functionalities.
Design
We targeted the in-between pages first, knowing that if users found it difficult to onboard or join a gig, they wouldn’t stay to see the fruits of their ambition.

Prototypes
Prototyping was crucial as our platform had a variety of user outcomes depending on their goals. All of these possible permutations were compiled into one large prototype. Due to a lack of time and resources, researchers used this prototype for all user testing. Despite our efforts in this area, they came back to us with one piece of feedback: “simplify.”
User Testing
Our target audience for the business-facing side of our platform was mainly founders and executives. These individuals were responsible for setting up gigs and funding projects. However, many of these higher-ups lacked the technical vocabulary necessary to complete the gig creation process correctly, often leaving it wrong or incomplete. This challenge required us to return to the drawing board and innovate.

Finding Solutions
Our solution was multifaceted. First, we reduced the number of steps in the process, simplifying it. Despite this, users often still lacked the knowledge to complete the flow from beginning to end. We removed requirements like attaching a GitHub repository and developed a system allowing founders to hand off specific questions to a collaborator, such as an engineer, who would have the necessary answers.

Additionally, we found that the copy was too long, causing a slowdown in task completion as users struggled to discern the purpose of lengthy paragraphs at a glance. We reworked these large chunks of text, removing unnecessary content entirely to streamline the process.

Outcomes
This was the first project the team took on after Snapbrillia’s pivot. Shifting mindsets was a difficult task, and more research could have been done initially to bring more context to specific user requirements, such as how designers and writers could fit into the gig ecosystem.

Handoff was another area that could have used improvement. Communication with developers is a crucial step in the design process. Although feasibility was always discussed, the final design handoffs were long and arduous, requiring many rounds of revisions.

In the end, many of the core features were well-received, and dozens of users were able to find full-time roles after completing gigs through our platform.
